QuickTime Extensions

To install the OS X versions of these, expand them using the Finder for .zip files, or with StuffIt Expander for .sitx files, then put them in the /Library/QuickTime folder, then quit and relaunch any applications that you want to use them.

To install the OS 9 versions of these, expand them with StuffIt Expander, then put them in the QuickTime Extensions folder in the Extensions folder in the System folder, then reboot.

If you have any problems with these, or encounter any files that won't import or export properly, email me at quicktime2010@mactcp.org.nz.

These extensions may not be distributed without permission.

AAC ADTS (.aac) exporter

This is an exporter for exporting to AAC ADTS (.aac) files. These files can be played on Nokia phones that play AAC. If the movie being exported contains a single AAC audio track, then the audio track will be losslessly repackaged as an AAC file. For everything else, the audio is compressed as 44.1kHz 128kb stereo AAC first.

Currently there is no way to specify different sample rates or bit rates. Currently the exporter makes no attempt to preserve meta-data (ID3 tags, etc.).

Cineon and DPX importers

QuickTime image importers for the Cineon and DPX graphics formats, commonly used for film work. Both importers support 10 bit per channel log images, which are converted to 8 bit with a lookup table. A sample lookup table is provided, it goes in ~/Library/Preferences on OS X, and in the Preferences folder in the System Folder on OS 9. The DPX importer also supports 10 bit per channel Y'CbCr 4:2:2 images.

Version 1.1 is a universal binary on OS X.
Version 1.2 adds support for grayscale Cineon and DPX files, and Little Endian RGB and Y'CbCr 4:2:2 files.

PPM Graphics Importer and Exporter

QuickTime image importer and exporter for the PPM/PGM/PNM/PBM graphics format, commonly used by unix software. The importer supports 8 and 16 bit per channel RGB and gray images, and PBM bitmaps. The exporter currently only exports 8 bit RGB images. Only binary modes are supported.

Version 1.1 is a universal binary on OS X.
Version 1.1.1 fixes the exporter not working on OS X.

MPEG-1 layer 2 Audio Importer

This is a QuickTime importer for .mp2 files used for MPEG-1 layer 2 audio. While you can import these files using the QuickTime MPEG 2 Playback Component, that imports them as an MPEG1 Audio track. This importer imports them as a regular QuickTime audio track, using the Core Audio MPEG-1 layer 2 audio codec. As it is a regular QuickTime audio track, it can be added to other movies without conversion, and export options like Audio to AIFF can be used.

Maya IFF Graphics Importer

QuickTime importer for Maya IFF image files. Supports 8bit and 16bit files.

QT AC3 Codec

I had an improved version of the QT AC3 codec here, but it still wasn't totally reliable on OS X as it was still a Sound Manager style codec rather than a Core Audio one. I now use and recommend Perian, which has a much better Core Audio AC3 codec included.
